Since the times of our grandparents, weddings were highly celebrated, and there were certain customs that were observed. One such tradition revolved around the name to be adopted by the woman. In most cases, the wedding trends that can be located in our traditions show that women took the names of their husbands. However, things have changed, and the have new wedding trends that are quickly picking up replacing the traditional patterns. The new trends have seen men openly taking the names of their wives and use them. A lot of factors are said to have contributed to these trends. These trends are highly found in the in Western countries rather than in Africa.

The trend of men taking the names of their wives is commonly practiced among the celebs in the world. When the man decides to take the name of his wife, most people argue that the man has been ruled by the wife though this is not true. For those who are taking up this trend, it’s a sign of love for their wives, and they argue that as a man, you will not fail or cease to being a man. The trends that are quickly picking up have those falling for them saying that, by taking up your wife’s surname, it doesn’t change you as a person since that is just a name. The trends have seen some close family members from the side of the man become worried as they feel that by a man taking up the woman’s surname, it might mark an end to the family name.

Another wedding trend that is seen to be taking place and related to the one above is where most of the brides are preferring to retain their maiden name rather use the name of their men. Most of the women retaining their surnames after getting married are said to be college-educated women. The women are said to be considering in making a personal brand in their profession.
